Line Crew Safety Monitor and Alarm Instrument at iP Safety Conference

An innovation by engineers at the Bonneville Power Administration, the SNT instrument has been helping ensure the safety of BPA line crews since 2003, with more than 80 units delivered. The SNT-02 Kit includes the sealed, battery-powered, safety monitoring and alarming instrument and field-proven accessories in a rugged enclosure for easy transport, setup, and use.

De-energized lines that are connected to a tower pick up induced voltage from parallel lines and can create dangerous voltages if the tower ground system is poor (high resistance). This is known as Ground Potential Rise, and is particularly dangerous because it can vary rapidly due to factors such as changing soil conditions, varying power levels on adjacent lines, and circulating currents due to multiple ground connections. The SNT-02 instrument continuously monitors for Step and Touch potential, and provides visible and audible alarms, improving job site safety.
